RoboCop the movie

Robocop would not be part of a list of the top action movies from 1980s. Paul Verhoeven's first Hollywood picture is still widely regarded as not just a classic among 1980s action movies, but also as one of the most astute, though blatant, satires of that time period. Robocop was a simple period action movie that could be dismissed in its early days. But, time has only made Robocop more important. While RoboCop has the appearance of an action movie, its deepest qualities are where Paul Verhoeven’s talents shine. When I look back on my younger self, I want to hit him across the face for not seeing (Robocop review) any of this, but I also have to give credit to RoboCop for preparing me to see graphic violence on film, which may have contributed to my success to this point.
